JGH clinicians honoured for exceptional senior care

The Jewish General Hospital celebrated the dedication of healthcare professionals at a ceremony on February 6 that highlighted the contributions of teams who implemented the Specialized Approach to Senior Care program across several units.

The program (known as Approche adaptée à la personne âgée, or AAPA), which is mandated by Quebec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services, aims to improve the quality of life for hospitalized elderly patients and has significantly reduced the number of complications among these patients.

This year’s award winners were nominated by their peers for their commitment to patients and their caregivers. Their dedication and expertise helped prevent complications related to physical deconditioning and enhanced the care experience at the JGH, paving the way for the program’s expansion into other CIUSSS facilities.

At the ceremony, Dr. Ruby Friedman, JGH Chief of Geriatrics, noted the hospital’s high percentage of older patients in many units and emphasized the importance of addressing issues such as nutrition, cognition and mobility. He praised staff members who contributed to the success of the AAPA program, including nurses, orderlies, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and others.

“Be proud, you’re all champions,” Dr. Friedman told them. “We’re all champions for our patients. Let’s continue!

Congratulations to the honorees: Eden Ventura, Marie Conrad, Elisabeth Menicucci, Hamid Mezine, Carly Berlin, Annabell Tapas, Ayinka Lewis, Belise Darveau, Josephine Najem, Yvonne Duprey, Andrew Souaid, Mary Jane Pascua, Caterina Tucci, Stephanie Lanz and Tali Bouzaglo.

And kudos to the teams that received awards: Acute Geriatrics (D6); Orthopedics (C4); Surgery (K8); and the Cardiovascular Unit and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (K2).
