A team from the Lady Davis Institute (LDI), currently developing a cutting-edge digital platform, has been awarded a $6.4-million grant from Genome Canada and Génome Québec in recognition of its potential to transform biomedical research.

The SysQuan project, led by Dr. Christoph Borchers, a Senior Investigator at the LDI, aims to create a platform capable of analyzing thousands of proteins (a process known as proteomics) with speed, reliability and cost-efficiency that outperforms conventional methods. Dr. Borchers, who is also Director of the Segal Cancer Proteomics Centre, is working jointly with Dr. René Zahedi, Director of the Manitoba Centre for Proteomics and Systems Biology.

This next-generation technology, which is being designed in collaboration with industry leaders and private partners, received the funding as part of the Canadian Biotechnology Innovation and Commercialization Initiative competition.

By accelerating the pace of drug discovery, deepening the understanding of disease and expanding the clinical use of proteomics data, the SysQuan platform promises to have a significant impact on research and healthcare applications.
