Congratulations to Hana Boxerman, who was the recipient of a Bonnie Swaine 2024 Recognition Award for the far-reaching impact of her work in the field of visual rehabilitation.
Ms. Boxerman, a Specialist in Visual Impairment Rehabilitation and certified Low Vision Therapist at the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre, was recently recognized at the Annual General Meeting of the Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire en réadaptation du Montréal métropolitain (CRIR), alongside three other clinician members from across Montreal. The CRIR scientific leadership indicated that her award celebrates the exceptional impact she’s had in her 38-year career, empowering visually impaired people of all ages to maintain or regain autonomy.
As a mentor and trainer, Ms. Boxerman has guided the next generation of specialists both locally and internationally. She was also recognized for her scientific contributions and community involvement. These include her many leadership roles—such as in the professional organization the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired—which have had a global impact.
