Want to make a difference during a second wave of COVID-19? Here’s your chance

“We’re the soldiers at the frontline,” says Camille Labrie, Assistant Head Nurse for CIUSSS West-Central Montreal

Our CIUSSS needs members for its COVID-19 Testing Clinic team. Assistant Head Nurse Camille Labrie answers questions about job opportunities—and why you may want to consider one.

What does someone working at a COVID-19 Testing Clinic do?

First, there are nurse clinicians who do triage, so they assess clients and make sure they have no contra-indications for the nasopharyngeal swab. After, clients enter the clinic and are registered by an administrative agent—so we need administrative agents too. And then clients undergo screening with a licensed practical nurse or other certified professional.

What types of jobs are you trying to fill?

We really need nurses, nurse clinicians and licensed practical nurses. But we’re also looking for other certified professionals authorized by the ministerial decree.* And we’re looking for people who are motivated and that adapt well to change, because this pandemic has shown us that things can change from one day to the next.

What happens to my regular position in the CIUSSS if I go to work at a clinic?

If you already work at CIUSSS West-Central and you want to help in a clinic for one or two months, for example, you can go work at the clinic and go back to your regular position at the CIUSSS after.

What are some of the financial benefits of signing up to work at a test clinic?

We have a $1,000 premium per month if you work for four consecutive weeks, full time. This is an addition to an 8 % COVID-19 premium.

What kind of personal protection can I expect on the job as far as guarding against COVID-19 contamination?

Staff here is really well protected. They have access to all the personal protective equipment. We try to maintain social distancing as much as possible. We are so strict that contamination cases are very low—even non-existent.

You’re on the frontlines of the fight against a second wave of COVID-19. What kinds of rewards come from a job like that?

Being at the heart of the pandemic is very rewarding. Not only do we do screenings, but we improve the population’s health by reducing anxiety for a test that’s not all that pleasant. We’re the soldiers on the frontline. It’s important as healthcare professionals to pat ourselves on the back and say, ‘We’re part of the fight against this big pandemic.’
