Congratulations to members of the Pulmonary Tele-Rehabilitation team at Mount Sinai Hospital, who were awarded a Prix d’Excellence from the Quebec Health Ministry, in the category Accessibility and Integration of Care and Services. The prize—presented by Health Minister Christian Dubé on May 23 at a ceremony in Quebec City—recognizes the team’s pace-setting Pulmonary Tele-Rehabilitation Project.

The tele-rehabilitation initiative provides pulmonary patients not only within our CIUSSS but across the province with access to a multidisciplinary care team (including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, kinesiologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and dietitians), for both in-person and online consultations. The virtual meetings take place on Teams, and help patients manage their conditions through education and training.

Those individuals without internet at home can take part in online telerehab sessions through partner sites such as the CLSCs. Patients benefit from ongoing support in the management of their pulmonary condition, as the medical team is more readily available for guidance and help and to answer questions.

These integrated services improve accessibility for patients with pulmonary illnesses, including those for instance who may have less severe pulmonary problems, but who require consistent care all the same. The program helps these individuals to carry out their daily activities with greater ease.
