Teamwork, open communication, professionalism, personal commitment, attention to the needs of the individual: These are qualities that have long distinguished the staff of CIUSSS West-Central Montreal—which is why we take every opportunity to acknowledge these characteristics and express our appreciation to members of staff.

Originally, we had hoped to again mention these admirable traits in the context of the fifth anniversary of our CIUSSS, which is just around the corner in April. Now, unexpectedly, we find ourselves in the unusual position of doing so, as each employee—each in his or her own way—copes with the daunting challenge of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

And yet, the extraordinary efforts of staff in this difficult situation demonstrate why the personnel in all of the facilities in our CIUSSS have earned the trust and gratitude of the public in the five years since our network came into existence.

From the moment when the coronavirus became a potential threat last year, staff at all levels and across all directorates began planning in meticulous detail for its possible arrival. Now that the infection has made its presence felt, our employees have been responding as quickly and efficiently as possible to provide coronavirus patients with effective medical care, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all healthcare users and all members of staff.

For this reason, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to you for everything you have done—and will continue to do—as we fight to contain the spread of this illness. In every action that you take in your chosen field of expertise, you are demonstrating that you not only embrace the ideals and values of our CIUSSS, but are willing and able to put them into practice in the most demanding of circumstances.

While this is hardly the time to celebrate our fifth anniversary, there’s no reason why you can’t take a well deserved bow for having shown what you’re really made of. By relying on one another, we can go on together to weather this storm.
