A team from our CIUSSS marked the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation in February with a film screening and discussion to raise awareness among our staff.

The event on February 8 was organized by Juliette Palhier and Jazmine Tejada (pictured in the photo), who are our CIUSSS’s resource people for domestic violence and sexual assault, in collaboration with SHERPA.

The session opened with a screening of excerpts from the National Film Board documentary, Koromousso – Grande sœur, followed by a discussion with Djenabou Sangaré, a project coordinator at the Réseau d’action pour l’égalité des femmes immigrées et racisées du Québec, and Bilkis Vissandjée, a researcher at the SHERPA University Institute and Professor in the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Nursing.

“On voulait sensibiliser les intervenants du CIUSSS à l’existence des mutilations génitales féminines et leurs conséquences sur les victimes,” Ms. Palhier explains.
