Congratulations to our team at Ma Grossesse, a provincial program that supports women during pregnancy. Since the service began in 2022, nearly 2,000 women have received personalized attention from our staff in CIUSSS West-Central Montreal.

Once a woman registers at the Ma Grossesse portal (French for “my pregnancy”), she’s contacted by Human Relations Agent Cynthia Fridman or Nurse Clinician Gabriela Santana of the Frontline Directorate, who are both based at CLSC de Côte-des-Neiges. They help women access programs and healthcare professionals, as well as provide information about prenatal classes, breastfeeding support and other services in the community.

“Women are very relieved after they receive the initial call, and each one of them gets her own unique form of accompaniment,” says Ms. Fridman.

When the government launched Ma Grossesse in February 2022, it noted that nearly one in four women in the province didn’t receive obstetrical care during her first trimester of pregnancy, the optimal time to provide testing, address women’s concerns, and act on risk factors. Ms. Fridman adds that the service is especially important in the area covered by our CIUSSS, which includes a high number of immigrants and international university students who often have no relatives in Montreal.

Catherine Gendreau, our CIUSSS’s Program Administration Manager for Youth Services, which includes Ma Grossesse, says the team provides an invaluable service. “A pregnancy can be a very beautiful moment in life, but it can also cause anxiety because a person might not know what to do. Our team members accompany the women and make sure they feel supported.”

Pregnant women have expressed gratitude for the support. In an email, one woman wrote that after interacting with our CIUSSS team, she felt calmer about her pregnancy. “Navigating the healthcare system until this point has not been easy,” she wrote. “Thank you for your approach and your kindness, I feel more confident navigating my pregnancy from here forward.”

Ma Grossesse online forms are available in 11 languages.
