Congratulations to Dr. Joel Turner, who has been appointed JGH Chief of Emergency Medicine, succeeding Dr. Marc Afilalo, who is stepping down after 38 years as Chief.
As emergency departments at the JGH and elsewhere face greater pressures due to overcrowding and a shortage of family physicians, Dr. Turner is looking to digital technology and greater use of bedside testing to help alleviate the challenges that the coming years are likely to bring.
Dr. Afilalo remains an active member of the Emergency Department, focusing mainly on research and innovation.
